Bowerman Construction Ltd., working on behalf of the District of Ucluelet, will be starting construction of Larch Road Active Transportation Improvements in March 2024 with completion expected by June 10th, 2024.

This project includes upgrades along Larch Road from Matterson Drive to Bay Street, and along Bay Street from Larch Road to Peninsula Road. The focus of these upgrades is to provide continuous and improved cycling and pedestrian routes on the north side of the Larch Road. The completed project will provide a new shared pathway linking Matterson Drive to the improvements on Peninsula Road.

General Considerations

  • During construction stage, Larch Road will become a one-way street with traffic flowing eastbound only while work within the westbound lane and ditch occurs.
  • All roads affected by the works will be made fully passable during non-working hours.
  • All driveways and resident accesses shall be maintained at all times during construction.
  • Travel speeds will be lower in the construction zone.
  • Pedestrians – will be directed to utilise the shoulder of the eastbound lane in order to safely pass the work zone.
  • Cyclists - when present, are to either (1) dismount and utilise the shoulder of the eastbound lane as a pedestrian or (2) take the lane and travel with vehicles.
  • Typical hours of work for this project will be Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (weather & conditions permitting), with work after hours and weekends as required and within the hours of the Districts noise bylaw.
  • Construction noise and vibration should be expected during working hours.
  • If you live in the area and have young children, please advise them of the dangers of construction and the limited visibility of heavy equipment and trucks.
  • All businesses will remain open during construction.
