Public Notice: Fire Ban in Effect on Thursday, May, 7, 2026 @ 12:00 PM
Ucluelet, B.C. — Coastal Fire Centre Enacts Category 1,2,3 Fire Ban. The Coastal Fire Centre website can be visited by clicking here.
Effective at 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2026 campfires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, and a total outdoor burning prohibition will be in effect for all public and private lands within the District of Ucluelet, as per the District of Ucluelet Outdoor Burning Bylaw No. 1288, 2021.
This prohibition will remain in effect until further notice.
In addition to the prohibition of outdoor fires, the following activities and equipment are also prohibited:
- Fireworks; as defined in the Fireworks Act;
- Binary exploding targets;
- Sky Lanterns
- Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building;
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description;
- Controlled air incinerators
- Air curtain burners; and
- Carbonizers.
This prohibition excludes the use of portable outdoor fireplaces which burn liquid or gaseous fuel and are designed to provide ambiance and heat. Such devices must be approved by Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) or the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), only be operated on a non-combustible surface, and have a flame height that does not exceed a height of 15 cm.
During this prohibition, the public is encouraged to report any witnessed outdoor burning. Between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday to Friday, please contact the District of Ucluelet Municipal Office at (250) 726-7744. After hours, call 9-1-1 and request the fire department duty officer to attend. Before reporting a fire, please take the time to confirm if the flame is from an approved propane appliance.
