JOB SUMMARY This is a casual position that performs a variety of receptionist, clerical, accounting and cashier duties in support of the general administration of the District of Ucluelet. The Administration Clerk reports to the Manager of Finance and also provides key support for the District of Ucluelet.

Barkley Community Forest Corporation:  Board of Directors Positions

The District of Ucluelet is seeking three community members to serve on the Barkley Community Forest Corporation Board of Directors for a term of three years (subject to annual confirmation by the District Council).

The Barkley Community Forest Company Ltd. (BCFC) is jointly owned by the District of Ucluelet and Toquaht Nation and exists to support the community by creating local employment, maintaining local control over forest resources, and generating revenue for the shareholders. Additional information about the BCFC is available at barkleyforest.ca.

The prospective Director should have demonstrated experience in exercising sound judgement and decision making. Previous experience in operations and on a board would be an asset. The District is also looking to expand recreational opportunities of the lands and this kind of experience would be considered an asset for the prospective Director.

Directors are expected to attend all scheduled meetings of the board, participate in board discussions, and vote on matters before the board. The Board of Directors meets monthly as determined by the board. Remuneration for Directors is based on meeting attendance.

Accessibility Committee

The District is seeking two volunteers for a two-year term on the Accessibility Committee. This advisory group helps develop and review a plan to improve accessibility in our community.

About the District of Ucluelet’s Accessibility Committee:

The Accessibility Committee is in the process of developing an actionable plan intended to identify and prioritize opportunities for the District to enhance accessibility within the community.  The Committee will also develop a public feedback mechanism which establishes a process for receiving comments from the public on the plan and barriers.

To develop the plan, the Accessibility Committee must consider any formal public input received by the District related to barriers as well as the following principles:

  • Inclusion
  • Adaptability
  • Diversity
  • Collaboration
  • Self-determination
  • Universal design

The District’s expectation is that the proposed plan will align and support established District plans, priorities, and policies.

Committee Composition:

The Accessibility Committee is an advisory body made up of members that provide access to lived experience, unique local perspective, and technical abilities. Committee membership is intended to reflect the diversity of persons in British Columbia and the community, including those with disabilities.

The Committee will have a maximum of five members, two spots are available at this time, all applications will be considered by Council.  The Committee will include one Council member and to the extent possible, at least one member that is an Indigenous Person and to the extent possible, three members that are persons with disabilities or individuals who support or are from organizations that support persons with disabilities. In the event that the District is unable to fulfill this composition, Council may appoint individuals that do not meet these criteria.

Committee membership will be advertised, applications will be presented to Council, and Council will appoint all Committee Members.

Committee Member Expectations:

The Committee will meet monthly or as determined by the Accessibility Committee while developing the plan. After the plan is received, the Committee will meet periodically as needed to review the plan and every 18 to 24 months to review plan milestones.

Members are expected to attend all meetings and participate fully to bring the full range of their skills, experience and diversity to the development or review of the Accessibility Plan.

Committee Members may not miss more than two consecutive Committee meetings without being granted leave from the Committee by the Chair.

Committee members will act in accordance the District’s Code of Conduct and Respectful Workplace Policies. Committee members in contravention of District policies, may be removed from the Committee by Council.

There will be no financial remuneration for serving on this Committee.
