Public Notice: Category 1 Fire Ban in Effect on Thursday, July 16, 2026 @ 12:00 PM
Ucluelet, B.C. — Coastal Fire Centre Enacts Category 1 Fire Ban.
Effective at 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 16, 2026 campfires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, and a total outdoor burning prohibition will be in effect for all public and private lands within the District of Ucluelet, as per the District of Ucluelet Outdoor Burning Bylaw No. 1288, 2021.
This prohibition will remain in effect until further notice.
In addition to to this prohibition, the Coastal Fire Centre will maintain the current Category 2 and Category 3 open fire prohibitions., the following activities and equipment are also prohibited:
- Sky Lanterns.
- Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building.
- Binary exploding targets.
- Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC.
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description.
- Air curtain burners.
- Carbonizers.
- Controlled air incinerators.
During this prohibition, only CSA and ULC approved devices which use charcoal briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel as the fuel source may be used, and flame length must not exceed 15 cm. Under extreme conditions, these devices may be prohibited as well.
These prohibitions will apply to all stated areas in the Coastal Fire Centre that are outside of municipal boundaries. In addition, these prohibitions apply to the following types of land within municipal boundaries:
- Parks, conservancies and recreation areas (Park Act)
- Recreation sites, recreation trails, interpretive forest sites and trail-based recreation areas (Forest and Range Practices Act)
- Ecological reserves (Ecological Reserve Act)
- Wildlife management areas (Wildlife Act)
- Private managed forest land (Private Managed Forest Land Act)
During this prohibition, the public is encouraged to report any witnessed outdoor burning. Between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday to Friday, please contact the District of Ucluelet Municipal Office at (250) 726-7744. After hours, call 9-1-1 and request the fire department duty officer to attend. Before reporting a fire, please take the time to confirm if the flame is from an approved propane appliance.
