Public Notice: Upcoming Fire Hose Testing

Dear Residents,

As required by National Fire Protection Association standards, all fire hoses in active service must undergo annual pressure testing. In recent years, the Fire Department has aimed to complete this testing earlier in May to avoid potential seasonal water restrictions later in the spring and summer.

Historically, the Fire Department has conducted the testing at the end of Marine Drive near Forbes Road, which is now adjacent to the new Shorepine Ridge development.

This location continues to work very well, as it provides sufficient space to safely lay out several hundred feet of hose without impacting traffic. Our proposed testing schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 12 – 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Tuesday, May 19 – 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (anticipated final testing night)
  • Tuesday, May 26 – 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (held as a contingency date if additional testing is required)

Hose testing differs somewhat from normal training operations, as we do not flow significant amounts of water. There is the potential for nearby residents to experience some temporary water discolouration during the filling process due to mineral sediment.
