Public Notice: Tsunami Preparedness Workshop Thursday, April 23, 2026
Tsunami Preparedness Workshop – What would a major earthquake or tsunami mean for Ucluelet?
When: Thursday, April 23, 2026 9:00 AM- 11:00AM
Where: Ucluelet Community Centre
The District of Ucluelet is proud to be part of this year’s Tsunami Preparedness Week by hosting a community workshop bringing together researchers and emergency management experts to explore what coastal hazards mean for our region and what we can do about them.
At this session, you’ll get an inside look at developments in evacuation modelling built specifically for Ucluelet and the surrounding communities. Researchers will walk through realistic earthquake and tsunami scenarios, share lessons drawn from major events around the world, and present findings from last year’s High Ground Hike.
The workshop includes an open panel discussion — bring your questions! Whether you’re a longtime resident, a business owner, or just curious about how science can support community safety, this event is for you.
Free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged as space is limited. To reserve your spot, contact Rick Geddes, Director of Fire and Emergency Services, at rgeddes@ucluelet.ca. Walk-ins are welcome on the day if space allows.
