Public Notice: Firesmart Burn Friday, June 25, 2026
Dear Residents,
Ucluelet Fire Rescue will be supporting a live FireSmart wildfire demonstration at the Cixʷatin Building parking lot (700 Wya Road) in Hitacu in partnership with the Ucluelet First Nations. The event will take place on June 25 at 5:30 PM. This educational event will showcase how different building materials and landscaping choices perform when exposed to wildfire condition
Two full-scale wall assemblies will be subjected to controlled radiant heat from a simulated wildfire exposure. One structure will feature fire-resistant construction materials, while the other will demonstrate the increased vulnerability of combustible building materials and vegetation. Attendees will have the opportunity to see firsthand how FireSmart principles can help reduce wildfire risk to homes and properties.
Ucluelet Fire Rescue will be on site with a staffed fire engine and charged hose line to ensure the demonstration is conducted safely. The event is weather-dependent and may be postponed or cancelled if conditions are not suitable.
This demonstration is intended to increase public awareness of wildfire preparedness, FireSmart building practices, and practical steps residents can take to better protect their homes and communities.
