Stay WildSafe This Fall

Dear Residents,

This is a reminder to stay WildSafe this Fall season. Wildlife remain active in our community, and it is the responsibility of residents, businesses and visitors to ensure that we co-exist responsibly. September is the month with the most human-bear conflicts in British Columbia.

WildSafe BC offers great resources for how to keep humans and wildlife safe. WildSafe BC’s At Home Checklist provides useful information to follow year round. The At Home Checklist is attached below.

“Wildlife attractants are anything that draws wildlife toward human activity that they would normally avoid. Bears have an excellent sense of smell (better than dogs). Help keep them wild and alive.”

The District of Ucluelet Wildlife Attractant Bylaw (Bylaw No. 1390, 2026) lays out clear guidelines for the treatment of refuse and the penalties associated with violating this Bylaw.
