Seismic Event off the Coast of Russia – Tsunami Advisory Issued
A large earthquake has occurred in the Pacific Basin near Kamchatka, Russia. As a result, a tsunami advisory remains in effect for the West Coast of Vancouver Island, including the District of Ucluelet.
What This Means:
– Strong currents and waves may pose a serious risk to those near shorelines and waterways.
– Coastal areas, beaches, harbors, estuaries, and low-lying river systems should be considered hazardous until the advisory is lifted.
Public Actions Required:
– Stay away from the coastline, beaches, docks, and all low-lying waterfront areas.
– Please prepare your grab-and-go bags and prepare for a possible evacuation.
