Press Release: Ucluelet Harbour Master Receives Harbour Authority Association of British Columbia Individual Achievement Award

Ucluelet, B.C. —  The Ucluelet Harbour Authority (UHA) is immensely proud to announce that Harbour Master Kevin Cortes, was awarded the Individual Achievement Distinction award by the Harbour Authority Association of British Columbia on February 5, 2026.  This award is given to individuals or groups who have demonstrated an exceptionally high order of behaviours and results-focused achievements beyond what could normally be expected.

Mr. Cortes has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to Ucluelet’s harbour for over 12 years, strongly contributing to the promotion, the advancement and the success of Ucluelet’s Harbour. Kevin was a critical part of the recent Ucluelet Harbour Master plan showing both leadership and knowledge throughout the process. This document has allowed the UHA, under the capable direction of Mr. Cortes to look at long term goals and planning, making the Harbour stronger, safer, and more resilient.

The Ucluelet Harbour is a staple of our community” said Mayor Marilyn McEwen. “Mr. Cortes’ dedicated service has allowed this vital facility to continue operating to the highest standard. I congratulate Kevin on this honour and thank him for his tireless commitment to the District”.

Whether it’s the late-night phone call from a fishing boat, the ongoing dock repairs or the tourist checking out the docks, Kevin is always there providing outstanding customer service. Mr. Cortes oversees the operations of Ucluelet SCH, ensuring that not only is the harbour well run but also continues to meet the needs of multiple user groups. Kevin takes enormous pride in his work, supporting SCH, the harbour community and the community at large. Congratulations Kevin and thank you for all your dedicated years of service to our community!
