Highway 4 – Planned Projects/ Traffic Impacts

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be undertaking several significant infrastructure improvements along Highway 4 between Port Alberni and Tofino throughout 2025. These projects aim to repair and resurface key sections of the highway to improve long-term safety and road conditions.

1. Taylor River Area & Base Repairs and Resurfacing
  • Timeline: July to November 2025

  • Duration: 4 months

  • Traffic Impacts:

    • Single-lane alternating traffic 24/7 from July 5 to September 25

    • Daytime-only single-lane alternating traffic from September 26 to October 24

    • Delays of up to 30 minutes

2. Pacific Rim Base Repair
  • Timeline: August to mid-September 2025

  • Duration: 4–6 weeks

  • Traffic Impacts:

    • Single-lane alternating traffic 24/7

    • Delays of up to 20 minutes

3. Hydro Hill Base Repair
  • Timeline: September to December 2025

  • Duration: 4 months

  • Traffic Impacts:

    • Single-lane alternating traffic 24/7

    • Delays of up to 20 minutes
