In Canada, the powers of municipal government are delegated by statute, by the provincial governments, to municipalities. In British Columbia, the Local Government Act and the Community Charter set out the role and function of local municipalities. The District of Ucluelet is guided by a dedicated Mayor and a team of Councillors, all elected by the community to represent Ucluelet’s interests and lead its continued growth and well-being. These Councillors, working alongside Mayor McEwen, serve four-year terms (2022–2026) and are committed to advancing Ucluelet’s priorities – such as improving infrastructure, supporting affordable housing initiatives, fostering local business, and ensuring vibrant community services.
