Message From Mayor & Council - June 21, 2024

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the impacts of the Peninsula Road project on residents and businesses in Ucluelet. The work being undertaken along Ucluelet's primary corridor is causing significant disruptions, not only to the community as a whole, but is having significant impacts to the businesses within the construction corridor.

Please know that the employees and contractors that are working hard on this community project are there to help achieve our collective community goal of repairing the damaged storm system, increasing vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist safety, while creating a vibrant entranceway to our community.

Council understands that during the construction process it is very hard to imagine how this project will be a benefit to the community, although we have been assured this project will achieve these goals.  We are asking the community for their understanding and patience while this project is completed in the coming weeks.

It is unfortunate that some damage to the work site has occurred which has resulted in adding additional costs and delays to the project.  While the work is being completed, we are asking the community for a bit more patience and understanding so that we can complete the works as quickly as possible and allow businesses to return to their normal operations.

The District and the Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce are working on a plan to support the impacted businesses.  We will be reaching out directly to the affected businesses in the coming days to understand the most effective means of supporting them once the project is complete.  Although we do not have a way to mitigate the impacts of being within a construction zone, we can and are committed to doing what we can to help affected businesses upon completion of the project.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this project.
