District of Ucluelet Proudly Announces Opening of Amphitrite House - March 21, 2025

Ucluelet, B.C. —  The District of Ucluelet is delighted to announce that Amphitrite House is now officially open. This project was made possible through full funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Community, Culture, Recreation (CCR) stream (Federal and Provincial Governments), and the Resort Municipality Initiative Funding (RMI).

In March 2017, the District acquired 18.3 hectares of former Coast Guard lands with a vision to develop a premier recreational park. This breathtaking site serves as a trailhead to the Wild Pacific Trail and offers panoramic views of Barkley Sound and the Pacific Ocean. At the heart of this remarkable landscape stands Amphitrite House.

The reconstruction of Amphitrite House has transformed it into a welcoming gathering space, providing a safe and immersive experience for storm watching. Additionally, the site now hosts an Interpretation Centre, where visitors and residents alike can explore the region’s cultural and natural heritage. The centre operates daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, featuring expert naturalists from the Wild Pacific Trail Society and Raincoast Education Society, who offer engaging insights into the area’s rich history and ecology.

Looking ahead, Amphitrite House is a versatile community space, offering even more opportunities for engagement and recreation. Outside of its regular public hours, the facility may be used for recreational programs and activities, further enriching its role as a center for learning and connection. Additionally, Amphitrite House is available for private rentals, making it an ideal venue for gatherings, workshops, and special events. “Amphitrite House is a beautiful and invaluable addition to our community,” said Mayor McEwen. “It provides a welcoming space for residents and visitors to connect with nature, explore our rich cultural and ecological heritage, and experience the beauty of our coastline. We are grateful to the Canada Infrastructure Program – Community, Culture, Recreation (CCR) stream, and the Resort Municipality Initiative for their support in making this vision a reality. Thanks to their contributions, Amphitrite House will be a cherished resource for years to come.”

To celebrate this milestone, the District of Ucluelet invites the community to the Grand Opening of Amphitrite House on Tuesday, March 25, at 11:30 AM at 954 Coast Guard Drive. The event will feature curated displays by the Wild Pacific Trail Society, Raincoast Education Society, and the Ucluelet & Area Historical Society, offering a deeper look into the cultural, environmental, and historical significance of this extraordinary site. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to commemorate this special occasion together.
