Dear Ucluelet Community,
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) has announced that they anticipate Highway 4 to remain closed for up to an additional ten days, with a phased reopening anticipated for June 24 - 25, 2023.
Fire crews, danger tree assessors, and geotechnical engineers are actively undertaking hazard mitigation efforts to restore use of the highway as soon as possible. Once rockfall and debris mitigation structures have been installed, the highway will be re-opened for single lane alternating traffic. The slope and debris activity will be monitored and assessed on an ongoing basis until the highway is restored to full operations, although single lane traffic is anticipated to be implemented for at least two weeks. Safety while travelling the alternate route continues to be everyone’s top priority. Travelling on this route should be undertaken with caution and by those fully prepared for travelling on forestry roads. Once the highway is opened to single lane traffic, travellers should expect long delays through the Cameron lake area until such time as the highway is fully reopened.
We would also like to reassure Ucluelet residents that the supply chain remains active with regular deliveries to our community. We look forward to the resumption of normal deliveries through Highway 4 upon reopening.
